Haines CNC Router cutting aircraft ribs and skins
Thursday, October 6th, 2011
www.hainesengineering.com The Haines CNC Router Type 4A is shown here pre-drilling and cutting 0.025 aluminum into aircraft ribs and skins. This was a practice session to determine the accuracy of the pre-drilled holes. The holes in the pre-drilled wing skins and the pre-drilled wing rib flanges matched well enough that no reaming or deburring was necessary (although this is recommended on actual aircraft parts). This CNC unit is plywood construction, capable of 50 inches in width and 3 to 12+ feet in length. The prototype shown here does not have the dust collection duct and skirt installed and does not have the wires dressed properly (the nature of prototypes!)
